Self-reductionDoctors treat a dislocation by putting the ball of the humerus back into the joint socket—a procedure called a reduction. To perform the self-reduction technique, you can sit on the ground with the ipsilateral knee bent 90° and hands clasped around the knee. Then lean backward to reduce the injury. Try this method up to three times, and try to relax and follow physician´s instructions. After reduction, the arm is placed in a sling for comfort. Finally, you should consider postreduction evaluation in either a physician´s office or emergency department.
