I think I tore or ripped a muscle in my abs. I am not sure what to do. It hurts so much! I can't stand up straight, or stretch without it hurting. A friend said it is just overstretched and will heal in a week, but I don't know.

Muscle Strain

A muscle strain (also called a pulled muscle) occurs when a muscle is suddenly pulled or twisted, causing a tiny tear. Healing usually takes about 1 to 2 weeks.
Apply ice to the injury for 15 to 20 minutes each hour for the first 1 to 2 days. Put the ice in a plastic bag and place a towel between the bag of ice and your skin.
After the first one to two days, you may put heat on the injury to help ease the pain. Use a heating pad (set on low), a whirlpool bath, or warm, moist towels for 15 to 20 minutes every hour for 48 hours.
Do not use the pulled muscle for 2 to 3 days, or while you still have pain.

I have herniated disc, what are the yoga exercises for that?

Yoga For Injuries

The practice of Yoga can be helpful to diagnosed disc problems after the acute stage has passed.
Asanas can tone your back muscles, make it more flexible, alleviate pain and improve your posture.
Symptoms of a herniated disc include: pain in back and/or leg; stiffness, numbness, weakness or tingling in leg or back; and/or shooting pain down leg. With a posterior (backside) disc herniation, back bends will help reduce inflammation and help press the nucleus back into the disk. You want to choose back bends that focus on the low back like cobra, camel, and bridge pose. Forward bends are contraindicated.

Intradiscal Electrothermal Therapy

IDET therapy is a new and minimally invasive procedure for treating pain due to disc degeneration. Severe Back Pain

The most common cause of true sciatica is a "slipped disc". The discs (or inter-vertebral discs) are the cushions which separate the bones of the spine (vertebrae).
Treatment of ongoing back problems must be directed at the cause. This may mean losing weight (because being overweight can make back pain worse), getting your muscles in better shape, and improving your posture when you're sitting, standing and sleeping.
It is commonly known that back pain sufferers should be encouraged to sleep in the semi foetal position with a cushion between their knees.

My back pain is so bad that I have no feels in my toes.

Toe Numbness

Numbness is a complete loss of feeling when you touch your skin. It may feel like the part you touch does not belong to you.
Numbness, tingling, or pain that begins in your back, moves down your leg and into your foot may be sciatica, caused by a pinched nerve (nerve root compression).
Sciatica is often debilitating but, in most cases, the pain abates with conservative therapy.
Surgery may be indicated in selected patients who are not helped by conservative treatment and who have debilitating symptoms after one month of therapy.

What does it mean by slip disc? Can the disc be restored? Is there a cure? How long will it take for complete healing if there is a cure? Thanks / shirley

Slipped Disc

Slipped Disc is a painful rupture of the fibrocartilage of the disc between the spinal vertebrae. It occurs most often in the lumbar region.
Mechanical physiotherapy treatment (McKenzie, Mulligan, and Kaltenborn) could be helpful, depending on the stage of protrusion.
If natural healing fails to occur surgery may be required to remove the disc, and the affected vertebrae fused to keep them from rubbing together.

My back goes out about once or twice a month for no reason; the last time it went out, I could not lift my right leg because it hurt when I lifted my leg up. Now the pain is in my hip and it has lasted more then a week.

Pain in the Hip

The sciatic nerve is the longest nerve in your body, stretching from the end of your spine all the way down to your feet. When it gets pinched, it can cause pain anywhere along its length (lower back on one side, in the lower buttock, or down one leg).

Proper Posture in Front of Computer

When you are sitting in front of computer, you must try to maintain proper posture. Which is a proper pelvic, arms and neck position?

If you do not have access to a chair with a good back support, place a small pillow in the small of the back to correct the curve.

The arms should hang at your sides. If your computer keyboard is too high or too far away, the arms have to be kept raised or extended, resulting in tense shoulder and upper back muscles and back pain.

Make sure your computer monitor is not too high of low. You should not have to tilt your head up or lean forward to see the screen.
